OAKLAND, Calif. -- Second-ranked Azusa Pacific kept the ball rolling with a 2-0 victory at Holy Names. The Cougars kept control of the match, allowing just seven shots with three on goal, while producing 18 shots of their own with six on goal.
Although the Cougars' offense was on the prowl in the first half, they had to wait until the second half to find the back of the net.
David Kwinn struck twice in a span of four minutes, combining with both
Bruno Pagani in the 55
th minute and
James Ndubueze in the 59
th. Kwinn netted his fifth and sixth goals of the season, trailing only Ndubueze on the list.
With nine regular season games remaining,
James Ndubueze leads Azusa Pacific with nine goals, followed by Kwinn with six and
Arturo Astorga with four. Astorga's five assists are good for the top spot in that category, and eight Cougars have multiple assists on the season. Nathaniel Linquist and
Brendan Fix have handled a large majority of the goalkeeping duties, and have allowed just seven goals and have a combined 14 saves on 56 shots faced.
The Cougars remain perfect with a 9-0 record and now sit at 2-0 in PacWest play. Azusa Pacific's six-game road stretch will come to an end on Saturday, October 12 at Point Loma. On October 19, Azusa Pacific will begin a five-game homestand against Concordia.
