HILO, Hawai'i-- Azusa Pacific lost its second PacWest match of the season Monday night, falling in five sets ( 25-20, 12-25, 26-24, 17-25, 11-25) in its third and final match on the islands of Hawai'i. The loss drops the Cougars to 16-4 overall and 10-2 in conference play while the Vulcans improve 17-5 on the season and 12-2 in league games.
Freshman
Annaka Jorgenson finished with a season high of 21 kills, 6 digs, and a block while
Katarina Radisic tallied 12 kills, 6 digs, and a block respectively. The defending PacWest Player of the Week,
Julianne Miller, contributed 11 kills, 5 blocks, and 3 kills for the Cougars while

How It Happened:
Azusa Pacific jumped on the Vulcans early on in the first set, taking a 6-0 lead in which two of those points were contributed by Jorgenson. Hawai'I Hilo rallied back midway through the frame to even out the score at 14-14, but two more kills by Jorgenson gave the Cougars an edge to close out the first set with a 25-20 victory.
A big rally in the second unfortunately turned the match's tide into the Vulcans favor. Azusa Pacific fell behind early as Hawai'i Hilo jumped out to a 16-4 lead. The Cougars could never respond as the Vulcans never looked back and cruised their way to a 25-12 set victory.
Moving into the third set, Jorgenson had three of Azusa Pacific's first six points to help the Cougars hold an early 6-3 lead. Both teams went back and forth through the entire frame to settle the score evenly at 20-20. The Cougars finished the frame going on a 6-2 run with two kills from Jorgenson followed by two kills by from senior
Sara Wagenveld.
The fourth set was a mirror image of the second as the Vulcans jumped out to an early eight-point lead at 13-5. The home team proceeded to hold a consistent lead throughout the reminder of the frame and ended up winning seven of the last eleven points to force a fifth set.
During the decisive fifth frame, the Cougars were in strong position after claiming the first two points of the set by way of kill from
Aliyah Morrison and a block by Wagenveld and Radisic. Unfortunately, the Vulcans rallied back and jumped out to an 11-8 lead over the Cougars. Hawai'i Hilo closed out the match with a 4-1 run to seal a PacWest Conference win with a match point kill by Emily Wade.
What's Next:
After wrapping up its three match road trip to the Hawai'i islands, Azusa Pacific will return to the Felix Event Center on Friday, November 1 for a 5:00 p.m. matchup against Notre Dame De Namur.
