The Azusa Pacific cross country teams competed in the 2019 Pomona-Pitzer Invitational Saturday morning. The men's team finished eighth overall as the women's team finished sixth overall.
For the women, junior Natali Contreras placed seventh in the women's 6k run with a time of 22:50.9. She was the top finisher for the Cougars on the day.
For the men, senior Kurt Hake placed 28th in the men's 8k race with a time of 26:39.0. Hake was the top finisher for the men's team as freshman Ben Sumner finished in 53rd place and second on the team with a time of 27:53.4.
"I was happy how the kids stepped up," Cougars head coach Preston Grey said, "Natali Contreras ran really well, finishing 7th. On the guys side Kurt Hake, Jared Chan, and Josh Jantz all had solid days."
Freshmen Jared Chan and Josh Jantz finished 59th and 79th in the 8k run respectively. With times of 28:02.2 and 29:32.2.
The Cougars now will compete in the PacWest Conference Championship meet in two weeks on October 26th. The meet will take place in Fullerton, Calif. at Ted Craig Regional Park.
