HONOLULU - Azusa Pacific kicked off its PacWest men's soccer schedule with a 3-0 victory against host Chaminade Thursday morning on the island of O'ahu. The Cougars dominated the action, as they finished the match with 20 shots, including eight on goal, while Chaminade had six shots with none on goal.

Freshman
Gabriel Costa struck first for the Cougars in the 14th minute, as he received a cross from sophomore
James Ndubueze and found the top right corner of the goal to take the 1-0 lead. The goal was Costa's fifth on the season, and Ndubueze's first assist on the year.

Less than six minutes later, junior midfielder
Arturo Astorga added to the lead with his third goal of the season. Astorga scored on a cross from the right sideline, as freshman midfielder Gregoire Diep and senior defender
Lloyd Alexander were credited with assists.

The Cougars added a final insurance goal early in the second half, as Chaminade committed a foul in the box that gave Azusa Pacific a penalty kick opportunity. Ndubueze took the chance for the Cougars, and found the back of the net to put the Cougars ahead 3-0 in the 57th minute.

Following its first conference win of the year, Azusa Pacific has two matches left on its PacWest-opening trip to Hawai'i, visiting Hawai'i Pacific on Saturday, September 22, and Hawai'i Hilo on Tuesday, September 25.
