The Suspense Was Worth It

Honolulu-- The Cougars picked up their first Pacific West Conference win when they finished Tuesday's second game of their doubleheader 4-3. The late-night curfew at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park caused the second game of the doubleheader to be suspended with the Silverswords leading 3-1 going into the bottom of the fourth.

Megan Mejia saw her fourth start for the Cougars this season, and Kat Ung entered the game in the second inning to record her third win of the year.

Cayla Broussard took advantage of a wild pitch in the first inning by Madelyn Stockslager to take a brief 1-0 lead over the Silverswords. Chaminade answered back in the bottom of the inning when they scored twice, on an RBI ground ball and a hit up the middle to take a 2-1 lead into the second.

The Cougars were quite in the second as Chaminade increased their lead to 3-1 off of a base hit RBI to left field.

Both teams were silent in the third and fourth inning. It wasn't till the Silverswords made a handful of error in the fifth that the Cougars Illianna Jimenez took advantage of a throwing error by the catcher to narrow the score 3-2. The Cougars scoring momentum kept up as Megan Tucker scored off of Becca Jewetts single to left center.

The sixth inning found both teams without a run entering the final inning of the game tied 3-3. Tuckers sacrifice fly to left center gave Broussard the go-ahead to score the game-winning run.
