Extra Innings Result in Cougar Defeat

WAIPAHU, O'AHU, HAWAI'I -- In an all-around team effort, the Cougars notched 14 hits, led by freshman Amanda Woods who went 3-for-5 and was credited three RBIs in the Cougars 11-inning loss to Chaminade 10-9.

In the circle sophomore pitcher Kat Ung saw the start, threw 4 innings and held Chaminade to two-scoreless innings. Following Ung's efforts was Gaby Grabowski who held the Silverswords to one scoreless inning in her 3.2 inning appearance. Racqual Espinoza claimed her fifth loss when she entered the game in the last 2.2 innings.

The Cougars got on the board early when senior Illiana Jimenez scored off of Cayla Broussard's single to the pitcher in the first inning. The Silverswords answered back the first chance they got, taking a 2-1 lead over the Cougars.

In the top of the second Woods scored Espinoza to tie the game up, before the half inning could come to an end the Cougars continued their scoring efforts when Jenna Gorman scored Illiana Jimenez and Woods with a single to the right side.  

Ung held the Silverswords to a silent third-inning giving the Cougars a chance to increase their lead. Woods traded places with Kayla Jimenez and second base when she hit a double to left center and scored Espinoza and Jimenez, giving the Cougars their largest lead of the game 7-2.

The Cougars didn't score in following six innings, as the Silverswords crossed the plate after a string of errors made by the Cougars defense that closed the gap 7-7.

Senior Anneliese Davis, helped the Cougars take back the lead 8-7 when she put a bunt down and scored Melanie Abzun. With bases loaded in the tenth, the Silverswords scored a single run to tie the game back up 8-8 going into the eleventh inning.

The Cougars reclaimed their sixth lead of the game when Emily Moran scored on a Silverswords error making the score 9-8 going into the bottom of the inning. The game came to an end when Chaminade scored twice in the eleventh inning 10-9.
