KANEOHE, Hawai'i -- In the Cougars first-of-three doubleheaders in Hawaii the Cougars fell 2-0 and 3-2 to Hawai'i Pacific University.
GAME 1: Hawai'i Pacific 2, Azusa Pacific 0
Sophomore pitcher Kat Ung got her seventh start of the season in the circle, where she gave up a two-run home run in the first inning then proceeded to retire a career-high seven batters in a single game in her six-inning appearance. Underclassmen Emily Moran and Amanda Woods both went 1-for-2 and hit the Cougars lone pair of hits.
GAME 2: Hawai'i Pacific 3, Azusa Pacific 2
Today marked Junior pitcher Megan Mejia has appeared in more games than any pitcher on staff thus far in the season, starting four of those nine appearances. After a three-run first inning by the Sharks, Mejia held their offense to five scoreless innings, like Ung, Mejia struck out a single game season high strikeouts.
The Cougars fourth inning comeback was fueled by Emily Moran's timely double that scored Anneliese Davis who singled to right for the Cougars third hit of the game. Freshman Amanda Woods went 2-for-3 in game two with an RBI in the fourth, when she singled up the middle to score Moran. The Cougars rally came to an end with a groundout down the line ending the game trailing the Sharks by one.
What's Next: The Cougars continue conference play tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. (HAST) against Chaminade.
