Saint George, Utah -- Azusa Pacific split day one of the four-game series against Dixie State in memorable fashion. After the Cougars dropped game one 8-0 in five innings Azusa Pacific came back from an early 12-run deficit into upset No. 5 Dixie State 21-19. The Cougars win tied the program's single-game scoring record with 21 runs in game two. Since both teams joined the PacWest, the double-digit game, is the highest scoring game on record for the conference made up of twelve softball programs.
Anneliese Davis recorded her first win in the circle as a Cougar, last throwing in 2016 Davis was vital in the Cougars game two comeback. Davis who got the start in right field, held the Trailblazers to two runs in her three-innings in the circle.
Game 1: Dixie State 8, Azusa Pacific 0
Throughout the five innings in game one the Cougars held the Trailblazers to two scoreless innings, both the first and third inning were quite.
Kat Ung got the Cougars out of two bases-loaded situations in the second and the third inning with two back-to-back strikeouts in both innings.
Jenna Gorman threw two Trailblazers out at second in the first inning, tying her two against UC San Diego.
Dixie State Crossed the plate eight times spread out through the second, fourth and fifth inning.
Game two: Azusa Pacific 21, Dixie State 19
In a three-hour thriller, the Cougars upset No. 5 Dixie State when they came back in the third inning after trailing 12-0 early on.
The Trailblazers strung six hits together along with timely sacrifice fly balls to cross the plate twelve times, nearly hitting through the lineup.
The Cougars put three on the board in the top of the third. Down 12-0 with two outs in the third inning, freshman
Amanda Woods sparked the Cougars dugout with their first hit of the day. Woods hit a shot over the left field fence for her second home run of the season. With a runner in scoring position

Dixie State answered back with two runs in the bottom of the third, making the score 14-3.
Kayla Jimenez scored on an error made by the right fielder when they dropped
Racqual Espinoza's fly ball. Farther along in the inning the Cougars took advantage of two bases-loaded situations in the fourth inning,

Cayla Broussard's single through the five-six hole nearly cutting the score in half 14-6.
The Trailblazers scored three additional times in the fourth the widen their lead over the Cougars 17-6.
The fifth inning was the Cougars inning they scored a total of nine times. Azusa Pacific started off the inning with two singles, then they loaded the bases when Davis drew a walk. With bases loaded Woods singled through the left side to score
Kayla Jimenez. With the bases still loaded,
Illiana Jimenez hit a grounder to the pitcher and scored
Melanie Abzun. Woods and Davis scored off of an error hit by Broussard. With Broussard of second, Gorman singled to the left side to score Broussard. The Cougars hit through the lineup and
Kayla Jimenez took to the plat for the second time, this time with a three-run home run over left field. Abzun stepped up the plate and knocked one out of the park on the first pitch. At this point, the Cougars are only trailing Dixie State by two runs, 17-15.
Davis took to the mound for the first time since 2016, she saw three-up three-down and held the Trailblazers to their first scoreless inning in game two.
The Cougars loaded the bases early in the sixth inning, allowing Davis to score off a ground out to the shortstop. Freshman
Becca Jewett tied the ballgame up 17-17 when she singled to second base and scored Woods. With runners on first and third

Azusa Pacific took hold of the lead once and for all in the final inning of the game when

The Trailblazers scored their nineteenth run of the game off of a fielders choice made by the Cougars.
