AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific returned home after being on the road for three conference doubleheaders to a conference split with Academy of Art. With sophomore Kat Ung on the mound in game one, the Cougars came out on top 3-2, highlighted by freshman Becca Jewetts two-run home run, her fourth home run of the season. Juniors Megan Mejia and Gaby Grabowski threw in game two, the Cougars recorded a 5-0 lose.
Cayla Broussard led the Cougars offense going 5-for-7 with an RBI against the Urban Knights.
GAME 1: Azusa Pacific 3, Academy of Art 2
Ung held Academy of Art to four scoreless innings and retired three Urban Knights.
After two-scoreless innings both teams scored in the third, Broussard got the ball rolling for the Cougars when she scored Illiana Jimenez from second with a single down the left side.
In the fourth inning, Jewett hit her fourth collegiate home run scoring herself and Jenna Gorman to take a 3-1 lead over Academy of Art.
The Urban Knights score the games final run with a triple up to the warning track up the middle.
GAME 2: Academy of Art 5, Azusa Pacific 1
Mejia recorded her fifth start in the circle throwing 5.1 innings, the Cougars went to the bullpen in the sixth when Grabowski got the call to finish the game, her eighth game appearance on the season.
The Urban Knights spread its runs throughout the game scoring in the second, third, sixth and seventh.
Broussard's 3-for-4 performance at the plate was her best conference hitting this season, earlier in the season Broussard hit 1.000 (4-for-4) against MSU Billings at the Desert Stinger in Las Vegas.
What's Next: The Cougars will host rival Biola in a conference doubleheader Saturday, March 17 at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m.
