Cougars Dominate Boards At Seattle Pacific

Azusa Pacific picked up its third consecutive road win against a regional non-conference opponent, beating Seattle Pacific 67-58

SEATTLE -- Savanna Hanson and Laura Pranger both finished with double-doubles to lead Azusa Pacific to its third consecutive win on the road Friday evening against host Seattle Pacific at the Sodexo Tip-Off Classic, 67-58.

Leading again for the Cougars with another solid double-double was junior guard Savanna Hanson with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore forward Laura Pranger turned in her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Zoe March helped lead Azusa Pacific with 12 points and 8 rebounds while fellow teammates Lydia Nieto and Daylee Hanson pitched in eight points apiece. Rachel Bozlee added a season-high nine points.

Exchanging points early on, neither team held a double figure lead at any point in the first half. After a neck-and-neck battle for almost the entire first half, the Cougars went on an 8-0 run in the final minute of the second frame to take a 33-25 halftime lead. The Cougars would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the evening, controlling the boards on both ends with 52 rebounds while Seattle Pacific pitched in 39.

A Savanna Hanson jumper with 4:28 left in the game helped Azusa Pacific extend its lead to a game-high margin of 15 points. The Falcons went on a 6-0 run in the remaining minutes, but the Cougars held a 9-point lead at 67-58 when time expired, giving Azusa Pacific its third consecutive win of the season.

The Sodexo Tip Off Classic concludes as the Azusa Pacific women's basketball team faces Western Washington on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 1:00 p.m.
