OAKLAND, Calif. -- It was business as usual for Azusa Pacific, which rolled to a three-set sweep of Holy Names Saturday afternoon, finishing a perfect 4-0 in road matches in the Bay Area this year. The weekend finale was all Cougars, as they posted a combined score of 75-39 in the three-set sweep.
Junior middle blocker
Julianne Miller turned in a performance for the program's record books, finishing the match with 18 kills on 21 attempts for a school-record hitting percentage of .857. Miller broke the same record she tied in last year's visit to Holy Names, establishing the new Azusa Pacific school record for highest hitting percentage with a minimum of 20 attempts. The previous mark of .750 was originally set by Chelsea Morgan in 2005 before Miller tied it with 15 kills in 20 errorless attempts against Holy Names last season.
Miller recorded kills on 14 straight attempts to start the match, recording five kills in the opening set, six kills in the second set, and another seven kills on 10 attempts in the final set as she went after the program's percentage record which requires a minimum of 20 attempts.
Miller's season hitting percentage now stands at .436, which ranks among the top-five nationally in Division II.
Junior
Sara Wagenveld also posted an impressive line, collecting 11 kills on 17 attempts to finish the match with a .529 hitting percentage. Freshman
Katarina Radisic and sophomore
Amy Hinnant both finished with seven kills. Radisic also had three service aces on the match. Senior
Kaylen Higa and freshman
Chase Davis Combined for 38 assists without an error, as Higa posted 20 assists and Davis had 18 assists. Sophomore
Sophia Newhouse had a team-high 13 digs.
Azusa Pacific maintained its PacWest lead with the victory, improving to 16-5 overall and 12-1 in PacWest play. The Cougars' next match is a visit to Point Loma on Tuesday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m.
