SAN DIEGO – In match-up between the last two PacWest champions Azusa Pacific overcame an early deficit to defeat Point Loma 2-1.
The contest was the PacWest opener for both teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED – The Sea Lions scored the game's initial goal on their second corner kick. Fernanda Osorio boot into the box was headed into the net by Maddie Masenheimer in the 34th minute.

Azusa Pacific responded in the 42nd minute – also on a corner kick. Kennedy Christine sent a beautiful ball high into the box where Emile Allum rose above all the defender and headed it into the goal's mouth.

Katelyn Rogers scored the go-ahead goal less than 10 minutes in the second frame. Her boot from just outside the box trickled by Point Loma goalkeeper Brianna Linnell. Linnell got a hand on the ball with a dive to her right but she couldn't stop the ball's momentum as it crossed the goal line.

It is the first time since the 2012 season that Azusa Pacific knocked off their rivals from San Diego. Furthermore, it is the first win for a Cougars squad at Point Loma since a 1-0 victory in 2009.
