Cougars Stop Cal Poly Pomona at #NCAAD2West

AZUSA, Calif. - In a third round elimination game, the No. 2 seed Azusa Pacific Cougars cruised to a 10-1 victory against the No. 6 seeded Cal Poly Pomona Broncos.

After getting shutout last night against UC San Diego, the bats came alive for the Cougars. After scoring three times in the first innings, third baseman Adrian Tovalin hit a grand slam in the second inning to extend the lead to 7-0. Right fielder Michael Staudinger went 3-for-4, scored two runs, and drove his second home run of the tournament in the seventh inning of the rightfield wall. PacWest Player of the Year Pablo O'Connor hit the third home run of the day for Azusa Pacific to give them their 10th run of the day in the eighth frame.

Dillon Miyashiro was stellar on the mound for the Cougars, throwing his fifth complete game of the season - his first of the nine-inning variety. He allowed just one run on five hits and struck out four Broncos hitters. He threw a six pitch eighth inning and mowed down the remaining Cal Poly Pomona hitters in the ninth to close out the game. The complete game by Miyashiro is the fifth complete game by a starting pitcher in the seven West Regional games thus far.

Post Game Press Conference

The Broncos scored their only run on a Chris Stratton single in the sixth inning. Starting pitcher Kyle Dohy went just three and two third innings, giving up eight runs on six hits. Cal Poly Pomona ends their season with a 34-22 overall record.

Azusa Pacific will play again later tonight against the No. 4 seed UC San Diego Tritons who beat them 4-0 last night. First pitch for that game is set for 7 p.m.
