FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Bolstered by depth and five first place finishes, the Azusa Pacific swimmers topped Alaska 107-98 in a dual meet that came down to the final event.

QUOTABLE: "Overall a good team effort today. We performed well," said head coach Tim Kyle. "This is always a good match-up for our swimmers. I am content with where we are at this point in the season but we have work to do."

FIRST PLACE PAIR: Elodie Poo Cheong and Rosalee Mira Santa Ana were strong in both their individual events.

Santa Ana won the 1000 freestyle in strong fashion as she outdistanced the competition by touching the wall in 10:34.52 in the night's second event. The senior then won the 500 freestyle (5:12.10) to give the Cougars 18 total team points with the victories.

Poo Cheong won a back-and-forth race in the 200 IM. Poo Cheong rallied from a small deficit halfway through to win with a time of 2:09.45 which was just over a second faster than Kate Matthews (2:10.70). Two events later the junior won the 100 freestyle as she outdualed Katie Stark at the end 53.47-53.83.

RELAY EFFORTS: With the meet tied 96-96 heading into 200 freestyle relay, the 11th and final event, the Azusa Pacific 'A' relay team of Poo Cheong, Alyse Darnall, Emily Rigsby and Santa Ana put the meet away as they won the event with a time of 1:39.72. The beat the top Nanooks team by nearly four seconds.

STRONG SECOND PLACE: Tamara Miler battled Santa Ana in each freestyle event and came-up with critical second place team points. Miler hit the wall in 10:47.01 during the 1000 freestyle then recorded a time of 5:18.93 in the 500 freestyle.

Similarly, Rigsby took a pair of runner-up finishes in the 50 freestyle (25.77) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.69) to aid in the team win.
