Comeback Keeps Cougars on Top

AZUSA, Calif. – A pair of goals early in the second half paced Azusa Pacific to a come-from-behind 2-1 win against Hawai'i Pacific on Saturday evening.

With the win the Cougars remain in first place in the PacWest. They have an overall record of 6-3-2 with a 6-0-2 mark in league games.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Hawai'i Pacific scored first when Ebony Madrid scored in the 18th minute. For her sixth goal of the season, she struck a nice shot from 20 yards out on the right side. She took a feed from Alissa Lei Walin and lofted the ball over Cougar goalkeeper Zoey Bauman.

Down one-goal to start the second half, the Cougars deficit was short lived. Just 31 seconds into the second frame, Katelyn Rogers scored her fourth goal of the season to knot the score. The senior corralled a pass from Stephanie Lossau and put a left-footed boot on the ball from 18 yards that found the back of the cage.

The winning goal came from Lossau. After a pair of nice passes from Emilie Allum and Rogers, the forward blasted the ball into the net in the 48th minute.

UNBEATEN STREAK: The Cougars have an 18-game unbeaten streak in PacWest games. They are 14-0-4 in that span. They have gone a calendar year without losing a league game (Sept. 24, 2016 vs. Concordia).

QUOTABLE: "I thought we did a really good job against their formation. They played a different style then we have typically seen and I'm proud of how we adjusted," interim head coach Don Lawrence said. "They scored a good goal that was hard to spot, but we responded well to that deficit and defended our lead in an efficient manner."
