Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Stephen Hinkel

Nothing But Defense

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – It ended the way it started.

Battling their rivals for 110 minutes, Azusa Pacific couldn't find the back of the net while holding California Baptist out of its goal on Tuesday afternoon.

It is the second time this month Azusa Pacific played a 0-0 game, the Cougars played to a draw against Chico State.

While each team had their opportunities, it was a defensive battle. Each team put 14 totals shots together as well as seven on goal for both squads. Azusa Pacific generate two solid chances from their pair of corner kicks; California Baptist had one set piece from a corner kick.

Post Game Interview with head coach Jason Surrell

A vast majority of the game was played in the middle third of the field. While each team was able to put a handful of shots together, nothing amounted to a series threat until the final stages of regulation.

During a two-minute stretch late in regulation the Cougars had two opportunities on nice corner kicks into the box but the California Baptist defense was able to keep it scoreless. With 10 minutes left Kennedy Christie had a shot from inside 10 yards but Lancer goal keeper Sara Escobedo made the save.

With just over six minutes left Michaela Miller put a shot from the left side that ringed off the cross bar.

In the second extra session a nice give-and-go in the box yielded a shot from Kelsey Bushman which forced Escobedo to make a dramatic save.

The Cougars have started PacWest play with a 1-1-1 mark and will look for their second conference win when they host Dominican on Thursday evening.
