Vogt Honored by the Athletics

AZUSA, Calif. – For the second straight season the Oakland A's organization has recognized Stephen Vogt for his community service and presence in the clubhouse.

On Tuesday the former Azusa Pacific standout earned the Dave Stewart Community Service Award. The award is given annually to an A's player in recognition of their charitable contributions. In winning the award in back-to-back seasons, he becomes the first player to win the award twice.

He and his wife, Alyssa, are active supporters of the School of Imagination in Dublin, Calif., which provides support and services to more than 350 children, many with special needs and disabilities such as autism. Vogt makes monthly visits to the school each year and also hosts the students at the Oakland Coliseum various times throughout the season. This April, the Vogts and the Vogt Family Fund hosted the school's first-ever All-Star Benefit on World Autism Day, which raised more than $90,000 for autism awareness. The Vogts have been working with the school since 2014.

In addition, Vogt has supported many A's community initiatives and programs, including the A's PG&E "Energize Your Field" Little League field renovations, visits to local children's hospitals and various meet-and-greets with long-time A's fans and season ticket members, among many others.

Just 48 hours later the 2007 graduate was named the Jim "Catfish" Hunter award winner. The accolades was created to best exemplify the courageous, competitive and inspirational spirit the former A's pitcher exude. Vogt has been recognized as the award winner three times; a first in the Oakland organization.

"We are super proud of Stephen and Alyssa's contribution and commitment to community service.  It is always nice to see good people recognized for their selflessness and care for others," said Azusa Pacific head coach Paul Svagdis. "As former Cougar athletes, both Alyssa and Stephen have set a standard of excellence on and more importantly off the field that serves as a great role model to our current and future players - Christ, Scholarship, Community, and Service are the cornerstones of Azusa Pacific University and to see our alumni live that out in their personal and professional lives is exciting!"

Vogt was named to his second consecutive American League All-Star team this year and is batting .254 with a career-high 28 doubles, two triples, 12 home runs and 50 RBI in 127 games.
