Late Game Breakthrough

AZUSA, Calif. – Persistence paid off for the Cougars.

After plugging away for over 70 minutes Azusa Pacific finally broke through as they posted a 2-0 victory against Academy of Art.

Throughout the game the Cougars forced play into their offensive third. They outshot the Urban Knights 21-2 while holding an 8-0 edge in corner kicks but just couldn't break through a packed-in defense until the final stages.

The win is the third straight as the Cougars are also now unbeaten in their last four contests. Their overall record is 6-3-2 while upping their league mark to 4-1-1.

Post Game Interview with head coach Jason Surrell

After a few halftime adjustments the Azusa Pacific offense really started to pick-up their pace of play. Despite peppering the Academy of Art backlines with shots, the game looked for moments that it might end in a scoreless draw.

In the 72nd minute the offensive effort finally paid off when Allyn Brown scored her second goal of the season. The senior received a low cross from Rachel Curley to score what turned out to be the game winner.

A Lindsey Ryals goal in the 85th minute sealed the win. She got her second goal of the season on a set piece from Casey Thompson.

Azusa Pacific will look to continue its momentum on Thursday evening when they host Fresno Pacific in the fourth game of a five-game home stand.
