Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Stephen Hinkel

Four Star Afternoon

AZUSA, Calif. – On Saturday Tim Ogunniyi was in that proverbial zone.

Playing on the offensive side of the field for just the second straight game, Ogunniyi scored four times as the Cougars cruised to a 6-0 win against Academy of Art.

He came within one goal of tying the school and PacWest Conference record for most goals in a game. He is just the fifth PacWest player to score at least four times in a game.

It is the fourth straight win for Azusa Pacific who moves to 4-4-2 overall and 4-2 in league games.

Ogunniyi's Four Goals in less than minute

The Cougars wasted no time getting on the scoreboard and putting the momentum in their favor. Less than three minutes into the contest Raul Martinez fed a wonderfully booted corner kick into the box where Ogunniyi elevated above the defense and headed the ball into the back of the net.

In the 22nd minute Azusa Pacific added to their lead when Arturo Astorga drew a foul in the goalie box to earn a penalty kick. Martinez took the shot and placed it nicely with his left foot in the left side of the net. Ogunniyi got his second goal of the day with just over 10 minutes left in the first half. The senior received a long ball from deep in the Cougars' defensive end from Dane Johnson. After a few dribbles he chipped a long shot over the out of position goal keeper and into the goal.

Ogunniyi's hat trick came less than three minutes into the second frame. Matt Ahlquist recorded his first collegiate point by garnering the assist on the play with a centering pass that Ogunniyi headed home quite easily. His final goal was a long blast from 40 yards out that hit the cross bar and was ruled to cross the goal line in the 50th minute.

The high scoring afternoon was wrapped up with just over 10 minutes left. Kaleb Armbrust scored his first goal of the season with a free kick 20 yards from goal. The junior calmly struck the ball at the top of box that clipped the cross bar and landed past the goal line.

Azusa Pacific plays the fourth game in five-game home stretch on Thursday when they host preseason conference favorite Fresno Pacific at 5:00 p.m.
