On the score sheet it was an evenly played contest. Azusa Pacific (4-5-2, 4-3 PacWest) held a 14-11 edge in total shots with each team taking six corner kicks.
Tim Ogunniyi scored his team leading sixth goal of the season in the 37th minute. After having his first two shots on goal saved, the senior headed home a good chipped-in pass from Kaleb Armbrust to open the scoring.
The Sunbirds (4-5-2, 3-2-1) began their comeback quickly. Two minutes into the second half the visitors Joao Ravasio scored his first goal of the season when he took a feed from Eric Sanchez and one-touched the ball into the back of the cage.
The defending PacWest champions took the lead in the 69th minute when Benjamin Cowdrill converted a penalty kick for his second goal of the season. The foul in the box was drawn when the Sunbirds put a pass from the left side into the box and the intended targeted player was pulled to the ground.
Azusa Pacific continued to press the action and had quality chances but couldn't break through with their second goal.
