Starting Off On the Right Foot

HILO, Hawaii – The winning ways continue.

Despite a change in venue the Cougars suffered no ill effects as they posted a 4-0 victory against Hawaii Hilo on Saturday evening.

After winning five straight at the friendly confines of the Cougar Soccer Complex, Azusa Pacific won their sixth straight to start a four-game road stretch as they improved their record to 9-3-2 overall and 7-1-1 in PacWest contests. The shutout is the ninth of the season.

The Cougars will look to make it seven straight on Monday when they continue their Hawaiian Island trip against BYU-Hawaii.

Post Game Interview with head coach Jason Surrell

In Saturday's win Azusa Pacific held a 10-1 advantage in shots on frame while creating six corner kick opportunities compared to just three from the Vulcans.

Kennedy Christie started the scoring in the 13th minute. The freshman received a great through ball from Emilie Allum and beat Vulcans goal keeper Jenn Hufford for the one-on-one goal into the lower left side of the net.

Azusa Pacific padded that lead just over 20 minutes later. Stephanie Lossau took the team lead with her fourth goal of the season when Allyn Brown centered the ball from the left side and Lossau had an easy deposit into the back of the net.

Allum got her fourth goal of the season less than 10 minutes into the second half. Her net-finder came when Casey Thompson knocked a ball into the box from the right side before the freshman placed a nice one-touch for the goal.

Kelsey Bushman's third goal of the season rounded out the scoring. The first-year player dribbled through the defense in the 75th minute before beating Hufford into the lower half of the cage.
