Three and Out

AZUSA, Calif. – In-and-out.

Azusa Pacific made quick work of Holy Names as they dispatched of them 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-14) on Saturday evening.

Leading the way on the offensive side of the net was Madison Ogas who had a match high 12 kills. Julianne Miller pitched-in a six-kill day while Aliyah Morrison and Ally Gonzalez each contributed five kills.

Among the specialty players Bailey Henington had a match high 18 digs while Shaylah Kagehiro posted 14 assists.

After a bit of a rough start to open the first set the Cougars got down to business and put away the Hawks. Holy Names (1-17, 0-10 PacWest) took their largest lead of the afternoon after a kill by Ashly Goor made the score 14-11. Azusa Pacific took control from there as they scored eight of the next nine points aided by six errors by Holy Names. The Cougars continued to build on their lead and never allowed the visitors to threaten.

In the second frame Azusa Pacific (8-11, 4-6) took the lead from the first point and never trailed. They eventually held comfortable leads of 10-4 and 15-6 as they rolled to a two-set lead in the match. In the final stanza the Cougars were in a bit of tussle until the midway point. Holding a 12-11 lead, Azusa Pacific finished the set on a 13-3 scoring spree in winning their first three-set match of the season.

Azusa Pacific embarks on their annual trip to the Hawaiian Islands next week. They will play BYU-Hawaii first on Friday evening before tangling with Hawaii Pacific and Hawaii Hilo later in the trip.
