RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Competing for the first time in the New Year, the Cougars took on California Baptist, Fresno Pacific and Concordia in a quad meet hosted by the Lancers.
With almost every swimmer competing in events they wouldn't typically swim, Azusa Pacific fell to Fresno Pacific and California Baptist but still managed a victory against Concordia.

On the diving board a unique battle ensued in both the one and three-meter disciplines as three individuals who competed at the NCAA Championships last season duedled on Saturday afternoon. In the three-meter competition Kianna Mourer edged out California Baptist's Lauren Skinner 241.55 to 236.55. Another tight six-dive program continued in one-meter as Breanne Schlenger, who also represented California Baptist, topped Mourer by just under five points (238.55-233.45).
In the 500-yard freestyle competition a pair of NCAA participates went head-to-head as Rosalee Mira Santa Ana topped California Baptist's Christie Halverson. Despite being down early in the race, Santa Ana responded in the second half of the race as she touched the wall in 5:05.34 ahead of Halverson's time of 5:07.34.
In addition to those first places, Azusa Pacific also recorded a handful of top five finishes during the 16-event afternoon. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Abigail Wiet, Elodie Poo Cheong, Heidi Zuniga, Erica Knudsen posted a fifth place finish with a time of 1:55.16.
Zuniga placed fifth in the 16-person field during the 200-yard freestyle event. The junior touched the wall in 2:01.33. Sydney Bello swam the 200-yard butterfly in 2:21.17 as she tallied a fifth place finish.
Kundsen rounded out the individual top-five finishes for the Cougars as she recorded a time of 56.37 during the 100-yard freestyle.
The meet closed out with Alyse Darnall, Bell, Nicole Johnson and Santa Ana placing fifth during the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:50.50).
