SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The Azusa Pacific men's tennis team saw its eight-match winning streak come to an end with an 8-1 loss to No. 5-ranked Armstrong in San Diego on Monday afternoon.

Match Results

The Cougars' lone victory came from Jan Meyer, who gave NCAA Division II No. 1 singles player Fernando Bogajo a convincing 6-2, 6-2 beating. In the fall, Bogajo had beaten Ben Eger en route to the ITA/USTA National title for NCAA Division II. Eger went on to win his two remaining matches in the tournament to take fifth place.

Against Otakar Lucak, Eger fell 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 2 singles spot. Armstrong also collected straight set victories at three, five, and six singles.

At No. 4 singles, Gary Yam took a set off the No. 18 singles player in the nation Ignacio Hernandez. However, Hernandez came back to take the next two sets to win the match 2-6, 6-2, 10-8.

For the first time in 16 matches, the Cougars dropped all three of the doubles sets. Bogajo and Lucak took out Meyer and Yam 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Eger and Pascal Engel had the closest match, but eventually lost 8-6.

The Cougars will play again Friday against Hawai`i Pacific, which is ranked No. 3 in the nation.
