Late Goal Gives Cougars First Win of 2014

Box Score CARSON, Calif. - In a game that Azusa Pacific controlled from the opening kick, it took a late goal before they were able to pull out the victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Mayra Almazan scored on a free kick from 25 yards out in the 86th minute for the game's only goal. The kick went through the hands of Dominguez Hills goalie Jennifer Ackerly.

While the final score may not indicate how the Cougars outplayed Dominguez Hills, the stats tell another story. Azusa Pacific posted an overall shot edge of 16-3 while putting eight of those shots on net compared to just two by the Toros. Azusa Pacific also took three times as many corner kicks then their host (9-3).

Sarah Klinkenberg registered her 12th career collegiate shutout by making two saves.

The Cougars had a goal taken off the board because of an offside call.

Azusa Pacific returns to their home turf on Saturday when they host Cal State L.A. at 11 a.m.
