AZUSA, Calif.-- No. 9 ranked Fresno Pacific earned a season-sweep over the No. 10 ranked Azusa Pacific men's tennis team with a 5-4 victory Friday afternoon. Leonardo Urquidi saved four set points in a second set tiebreaker against junior Gary Yam, and clinched the victory for the Sunbirds with a 7-5, 7-6 (14) win at No. 4 singles.

Yam, who had the clinching win the last time the Sunbirds came to Azusa, saved four match points and led 14-13 in the tiebreaker before Urquidi rattled off three points in a row against his cramping opponent to end the Cougars' chances at mounting a comeback.

With the score tied at 3-3, Fresno Pacific (15-5) led by a set on all three courts in action. Kyle Rowe won the final three games against Pascal Engel to break the match tie for a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. After Urquidi clinched the match, Frederick Wilkens added one more win for the Cougars at No. 2 singles. Wilkens won consecutive tiebreakers after dropping the first set for a 5-7, 7-6 (0), 10-8 win.

Tomas Aranguiz and Jan Meyer each posted straight-set wins, which gave the Cougars their only lead of the day at 3-2. Meyer defeated Thomas Gely 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Aranguiz added the second singles victory for Azusa Pacific (12-5) with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Stefan Loop. Brendan Aguilar tied the score with the Sunbirds' first win in singles, 6-2, 6-2 over Alan Leahy at No. 4 singles.

After getting swept in doubles in Fresno, the Cougars came away with one doubles set in the rubber. Meyer and Yam came back from down 2-4 to win the final six games for an 8-4 win over Rowe and Gely. Aguilar and Urquidi cruised at No. 2 doubles for an 8-2 win over Wilkens and Aranguiz, who each came back for wins in singles. Loop and Michael Tymkiew paired up for an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles over Engel and Leahy.

Azusa Pacific will play again with less than a day's worth of rest when it takes on Hawai`i Hilo Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
