LA JOLLA, Calif.-- In a battle between a pair of NCAA Division II top-15 programs, the No. 12 ranked Azusa Pacific men's tennis team continued its string of narrow wins with a 5-4 win over No. 14 UC San Diego. The Cougars, using a reworked singles lineup, quickly jumped out to a 4-2 advantage and got the clincher from Gary Yam before the Tritons closed out the day with wins at No. 3 and No. 6.

Frederik Wilkens and Jan Meyer switched places atop the singles lineup, with Wilkens nabbing a 6-4, 6-4 defeat of Alexander Miaule at No. 2, and Meyer keeping his regular season collegiate record perfect in a 6-2, 6-4 win over Max Jiganti in his first match at No. 1.
The Cougars' other singles win came from Yam, who beat Kona Luu 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4. Alan Leahy fell in a narrow 7-6 (14-12), 6-4 match at No. 3 against Rajeev Herekar, and Ganesh Alagappan defeated Pascal Engel 6-3, 6-2 at No .5. UC San Diego closed the day with Mark Meyer's 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 win over Tomas Aranguiz.
Azusa Pacific grabbed wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles behind Engel's and Meyer's 8-4 victory against Jiganti and Luu, and Aranguiz' and Wilkens' 8-6 win at No. 2. Herekar and Mark Meyer posted an 8-5 win over Yam and Leahy at No. 3.
The Cougars, who have won 26 consecutive regular season matches, will face former GSAC rival Concordia at home on Monday.
