AZUSA, Calif. – For the first time in program history the Azusa Pacific swimming and diving team hosted a competition. After Saturday's result, the Cougars sure wouldn't mind hosting more.
The Cougars topped Biola 151-79 in a PCSC (Pacific Coast Swimming Conference) competition at Slauson Pool.
"It was great to be supported by our student body and parents at our first home meet," said head coach Tim Kyle. "The fans were great in helping us get the win. It was just a great overall team win."
Azusa Pacific won nine of the 13 events contested en route to the team victory.

Ingrid Cardenas won both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events. The senior started her double win day by winning the 200-yard event in 1:59.78 which out touched her teammate Victoria Hodge for first. During the 100-yard competition she won with a time of 54.28 while teammate Erica Knudson's time of 55.04 was good enough for second.
Rosalee Mira Santa Ana continued her winning ways in the distance races. The freshman began the meet by claiming first place in the 1000-yard freestyle event with a time of 10:18.56. Also during the event Sydney Bello and Alexandra Gomez scored second and third place team points respectively for the Cougars. Santa Ana wrapped-up her day with a victory in the 500-yard freestyle competition with a time of 5:07.02.
The swimmers weren't the only Cougars winning twice on Saturday. Kianna Mourer won the one-meter diving competition with a score of 213.60. The freshman also won the three-meter diving event with a point total of 230.25.
While Knudson came up slightly short in the 100-yard freestyle, she wasn't to be denied in the 50-yard freestyle event as she won the sprint in 25.41.
Alyse Darnall swam the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.64 to round out the victorious Cougars. During the race Anna Eckberg took home third place points as she touched the wall in 1:04.26
"I'm really pleased with how our backstroke race went," Kyle said. "For where we are in season, to have both Alyse and Anna put together great races is very satisfying."
The day concluded with the Azusa Pacific 200-yard freestyle relay team of Cardenas, Darnall, Santa Ana and Knudson outdistancing themselves from Biola with a time of 1:40.66.
