Box Score AZUSA, Calif. - Returning to the friendly confines of the Felix Event Center the Cougars claimed a 3-1 (25-16, 19-25, 25-17, 25-17) non-conference win over La Sierra on Tuesday evening.
After traveling to the Bay Area for three matches and Utah for single match, it was Azusa Pacific's first home match since Sept. 20.
Tuesday's match was a well-rounded offensive effort as seven different players recorded at least four kills. Katy Crouse led the way with a 10-kill match while playing in two sets. Ashley Midland and Crystal Dedes each contributed eight kills.
Azusa Pacific broke open the first set with a scoring run at the midway point of the stanza. Tied at 13-13, the Cougars won 12 of the final 15 points en route to the first set victory. The visitors responded well in the second set as they never trailed in tying the match at a set each.
Momentum in the critical third set was grabbed early by the Cougars. Azusa Pacific jumped ahead 8-3 and grew that lead to as large as 11 points in cruising to a 2-1 lead in the match. The final stanza saw the Golden Eagle stay within striking distance early but they couldn't overcome their deficit. Leading 13-12, Azusa Pacific proceeded to score seven of the next nine points to grab a comfortable 20-14 lead. The Golden Eagles pulled within 20-16 but that was as close as they got before the home standing Cougars clinched the match.
In addition to the Cougars offensive personal, the specialty players provided a lift. Jaden Louie dished out 29 assists while Kristina Kam had a match high 14 digs.
La Sierra's Lina Semaia notched a match high 18 kills.
It was the final non-conference match of 2014 for the Cougars. They step back into PacWest play on Friday with a 7 p.m. match against Notre Dame de Namur.
