Warrior Woes

Sonnier and Wilson combine for 22 kills as APU drops 3–0 decision at The Murch.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Azusa Pacific took a tough three-set loss to Westmont (22–25, 19–25, 19–25) inside Murchison Gymnasium. The Cougars (7–15, 2–7 PacWest) showed an early fight but couldn't sustain momentum against the Warriors' high-efficiency attack.

Westmont opened the night with a strong first set, hitting .378 while using an early 8–5 run to create separation. Sarah Wilson and Jackie Winfield supplied early offense for the Cougars, combining for 11 kills, but the Warriors' offense held firm as APU dropped the opener 25–22.

Set two followed a similar pattern, as Azusa Pacific stayed close early before Westmont pulled away midway through. Brooklyn Kostoff dished eight assists in the frame, setting up Wilson and Katelyn Sonnier for key points, but the Warriors' defense limited APU to .176 hitting in the 25–19 decision.

In the third set of the night, Sebestyen and Sonnier kept the Cougars within striking distance, while Mia Medrano's back-row defense extended rallies. A late kill by Sonnier pulled APU within three at 22–19, but Westmont closed out the sweep 25–22.

Looking Ahead

Azusa Pacific returns home to the Felix Event Center this Friday to open a three-match homestand, where the Cougars will look to regroup and finish PacWest play strong with the season's final stretch on the horizon.
