AZUSA, Calif. -- Senior Chelsea Morgan led the NAIA's No. 12-ranked Azusa Pacific to a 30-26, 30-27, 30-21 sweep over visiting Hope International in Golden State Athletic Conference action Tuesday night.
Morgan collected a match-high 14 kills and posted a .480 attack percentage. Sophomore setter Allison Kincheloe finished with a match-high 16 digs, while sophomore Brittany Brown had 4 service aces. Hope International was led by freshman Jillian Lane's 11-kill, 11-dig performance.
After falling behind 8-6 to start the opening game, Azusa Pacific reeled off a 9-2 run to take command of the game with a 15-10 lead, and the Cougars led by at least 3 points the rest of the way in a 30-26 win to start the match.
With the second game tied at 10-10, Azusa Pacific scored 12 of the next 18 points to take a 22-16 lead, and 5 different Cougars recorded kills during the run. The Cougars maintained a 2-point cushion the rest of the way as they took Game 2, 30-27.
After falling behind again to start Game 3, the Cougars went on a 25-10 run to turn a 6-2 deficit into a 27-16 advantage, and freshman Jill Baker, junior Alison Pattison and sophomore Megan Burch recorded kills to finish the sweep with a 30-21 Game 3 win.
Pattison finished with 8 digs, moving her into fourth on the Azusa Pacific career digs chart with 1,162. Mahea Burgess previously held the fourth spot with 1,156 career digs. Now with 1,241 career kills, Morgan pulled to within 100 kills of the program's third-highest career kill total, currently held by Jenny Brickner (1,336).
With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 19-7 overall, 11-6 in GSAC play, while Hope International drops to 8-21 overall, 2-16 in conference action.
