AZUSA, Calif.-- Four Lewis-Clark St. (Idaho) pitchers combine to limit Azusa Pacific to just 10 hits in 2 games as the NAIA's No. 3-ranked Warriors swept a non-conference doubleheader from the Cougars Thursday in Azusa.

The Warriors erased a 4-1 deficit to win the opener, 10-4, and then completed the sweep with a 5-1 win in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Cougars first 3 batters reached when Coba Canales singled, Chris Cardinale was hit by a pitch, and Stephen Vogt walked. Joe Morrison then delivered a 2-RBI double down the left field line, and Vogt later scored on a passed ball to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead out of the gate.

The Warriors made it 3-1 in the third, but Chris Cardinale's RBI single in the fourth gave the Cougars a 4-1 lead. But that would be all the Cougars mustered the rest of the day.

LC St., which has won 13 NAIA championships, added 2 runs in the fifth to get within 1 and then did its damage in the sixth off reliever Kelly Strickland, scoring 4 times to take a 7-4 lead.

Warrior Sal Aguilar, an Azusa native, then gave way to Derrick Landavazo, who closed out the final 3 innings allowing just 2 hits and a walk while striking out 5 to pick up the save. For insurance, the Warriors added 3 more in the ninth.

Daniel Sloan started and allowed 5 hits and 3 runs in 5 innings. Strickland suffered the loss in relief. Canales and Cardinale both had 2 hits.

In the nightcap, the Cougars wasted a stellar performance from Brandon Sisk, who allowed just 3 hits and 1 earned run in 6 innings of work. Lewis-Clark St. starter Brad Davis was equally as solid as he allowed just 3 hits and no runs in 6 innings of work while striking out 6.

The Warriors scored in their first at-bat on a solo shot by Jose Castenon, the first of 3 Lewis-Clark St. home runs. They added another run in the fifth when Colin Weymer scored on a Morrison error.

Joey Dyche added a solo home run in the eighth off reliever Jake Boyle, and Ryan Stevenson completed the scoring with a 2-run shot in the ninth. Morrison delivered a sacrifice fly for the Cougars' lone run in their last at-bat.

David picked up the win, and Nate Kuhns notched the save as he finished out the final 3 innings, allowing just 1 run without giving up a hit.

Nick Pursell, Jeff Staniland and John Ray each had hits for the Cougars.
