Eagles Snap Skid

AZUSA, Calif. -- It's been 4 years since Concordia has beaten Azusa Pacific, and the Eagles, who also haven't won in Azusa since 1997, were going to make certain both streaks ended tonight.

The NAIA's No. 16-ranked Concordia, led by Raquel Ferreira, dominated all aspects of the court in a resounding 3-0 win over No. 25 Azusa Pacific, 30-23, 30-14, 30-26, in the Cougars' home opener.

The loss snaps the Cougars' 4-match win streak.

The Eagles, who are off to their best start in program history, are celebrating their first-ever national ranking in a big way. Ferreira had 19 kills and 7 digs as Concordia jumped on the Cougars from the start.

With the Cougars leading 9-8 in the opening game, Lindsey Campbell pounded one of her 9 kills to tie the match. Ferreira then recorded one of her 8 game-one kills and the Eagles were off on a 13-5 run that opened up a 21-14 lead they would not relinquish.

Concordia led 8-6 in the second game when it went on a 13-3 run to blow the game open and take a 21-9 lead. The Eagles took advantage of several Cougar miscues in the second game, 12 of which were attack errors, including 7 in the decisive run.

Chelsea Morgan led the Cougars with 11 kills. She committed just 2 attack errors in 21 attempts (.421). As a team, the Cougars hit just .117 (35 kills, 21 errors, 120 attempts). Take out Morgan's effort and the Cougars hit just .051. Katrina Anker added 9 kills and 12 digs.

And as flat as the Cougars were, the Eagles were sharp. As a team, they hit .316. They also had 9 service aces, 54 digs, just 1 serve receive error and 8 blocks. Ferreira hit a blistering .405 (19-4-37), while Campbell hit at a .467 clip (9-2-15). Both Campbell and Ferreira added 3 blocks apiece.
