SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The NAIA's No. 5-ranked Point Loma Nazarene used a 4-run third to erase a 2-0 deficit and get a 4-2 win over Azusa Pacific in the nightcap to complete a sweep of a GSAC doubleheader.

Twice the Sea Lions overcame deficits to post wins, including erasing a 5-0 hole to get a 9-8 win in the opener.

With the pair of losses, the Cougars drop to 22-13 overall, 9-10 GSAC, while Point Loma improves to 30-5, 14-2. In addition, the Cougars' playoff mountain just got steeper as they now trail Cal Baptist by 3 games in the loss column with 9 to play for the fourth and final spot.

Jake Haaker's RBI double in the second, and Ryan Marcos' RBI single in the third gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead. However, as they did all day, the Sea Lions responded in a big way.

Cougar starter Brandon Sisk, who retired 8 of the first 10 batters he faced and seemed poised to take advantage of the lead he was handed. However, after getting Sea Lion leadoff hitter Mike Acuna to ground out for the second out of the third, the wheels fell off as the next 5 batters reached base. After Wayne Scheler had an RBI single to cut the deficit in half, the Sea Lions took the lead on back-to-back doubles by Jud Richards and David Parker.

The Cougars put runners on in each of the next 3 innings, and had runners at first and second in the sixth but were unable to score again. Sisk suffered his first loss of the season after giving up 6 hits and 4 runs in 2.2 innings. Josh Grant relieved him and finished up the final 3.1 innings, allowing just 1 hit.

Robbie Lindsey (2-for-4), Marcos (2-for-3) and Joe Morrison (2-for-2) each had 2 hits.

In the opener, the Cougars jumped all over Sea Lion starter Chris Hill with 5 runs in the first. Glenn Hedgpeth started with a 3-run home run, and Mark Streelman and Nick Mercado delivered back-to-back RBI singles to cap the inning.

However, the lead was short-lived as the Sea Lions answered right back with 5 of their own off Cougar starter Derek Wohlers on an RBI double by Mike Eshragh and then back-to-back home runs, including a 3-run shot by Will Craig and a solo blast by Ryan Hoover, which tied the game 5-5.

After a Dave Park solo home run off reliever Brad McKinney gave the Point Loma 6-5 lead in the third, Hedgpeth tied the game with a solo homer in the fifth, and Jeff Staniland gave the Cougars the lead again with a his fifth homer of the year, a solo shot in the sixth. Again, though, the lead didn't last as Hoover hit his second homer of the game, a 2-run shot to give the Sea Lions an 8-7 lead in the sixth.

Billy Gwinn tied the game for the third time with an RBI groundout in the seventh, but Hoover answered again with an RBI double in the eighth to account for the game's final run and a 9-8 Sea Lion lead. Hoover, who went 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs, then tossed a scoreless ninth to complete his day and pick up the win on the mound.

Hedgpeth was 2-for-4 with 4 RBI, and Cameron Radonich had 2 hits as well. Eight of the Cougars' starters had at least 1 hit. McKinney suffered his third loss of the season after tossing 6 innings of relief, allowing 4 runs and striking out 3.
