WAIPAHU, Hawaii -- For the second time in less than a month, the NAIA’s No. 1-ranked Azusa Pacific downed NCAA Division I Hawaii, this time by a 6-3 margin in Hawaii.
The Cougars improve to 23-0 with win, which sets up tomorrow’s showdown with NCAA Division II top-ranked Hawaii Pacific. The Rainbow Warriors drop to 8-13.
Azusa Pacific, which knocked off Hawaii, 8-1, March 22 in Azusa, took 2 of 3 doubles then did just enough in singles play winning at 2, 3, 4 and 6. Hawaii tied the match at 3-3 after Dalibor Ptak (No. 1) and Jarrod Diepraam (No. 5) won their matches. However, within minutes the Cougars retook control and clinched the win as both Tom Jelsma (No. 6) and David Goodman (No. 3) each won their matches.
