Box Score AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific used 2 big innings and pounded out 20 hits in a 25-9 non-conference win over Grand Canyon (Ariz.) Monday night in Azusa.
The win is the Cougars' fourth in a row and moves them 13-7 overall. Grand Canyon, which is moving from NCAA Division II to NAIA next season, drops to 9-14.
The Cougars banged out 4 monstrous home runs, including Jake Haaker's grand slam and Glenn Hedgpeth's 3-run shot in the Cougars' 8-run fourth that turned a 7-2 lead into a 15-2 advantage. The Cougars added 9 more in the fifth after they sent the first 8 batters to the plate without giving away an out benefiting from 4 singles, 3 walks and a hit batsman.
Freshman Brandon Sisk started on the mound and picked up his third win of the season. The lefty went 6 innings, scattering 7 hits, 5 runs (3 earned) while striking out 7.
Coba Canales and Ryan Marcos each had 3 hits apiece. Marcos had a pair of doubles and 2 RBIs, while Canales hit his first home run of the season in the second. Haaker finished with 5 RBIs. Jeff Staniland was also 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and his second home run of the season in the seventh.
The 25 runs is the most by a Cougar team since head coach Paul Svagdis took over, eclipsing the previous mark of 22 scored last year vs. Bridgewater (Va.). It is also the most by any Cougar team since the 2001 squad scored 33 vs. Westmont.
