Box Score AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific stormed out of the gate with 5 runs in the first 2 innings and then coasted in for a 12-1 win over visiting NAIA-member Indiana Wesleyan in a non-conference game Thursday night in Azusa.
The win snaps the Cougars' 3-game losing skid and improves them to 10-7 on the season. Indiana Wesleyan drops to 1-6.
Derek Wohlers started on the mound and picked up his first win of the season. He went 6-plus innings allowing just 3 hits and 1 run. He walked the first 3 batters of the seventh before being lifted.
Robbie Lindsey had 3 hits, including his third home run of the season in the second inning that gave the Cougars a 5-0 lead. Cameron Radonich led off the game with his third home run as the Cougars sent 9 batters to the plate in their first at bat. Lindsey hit his tenth double of the season in the first and later scored on Ryan Marcos' RBI single.
The Cougars added a single run in the third on an RBI groundout by Jeff Staniland and one in the fourth on an RBI double by Joe Morrison and then left the rest up to Wohlers and reliever Josh Grant, who tossed the final 3 innings allowing just 1 hit.
Morrison led of the seventh with a single and scored on Marcos' double. Marcos later scored on a fielder's choice by Staniland to give the Cougars a 9-1 lead.
Lindsey led off the eighth with his eleventh double of the year and 192nd career hit, putting him just 4 shy of Marty Cordell (1978-81) for third all-time on Azusa Pacific's career chart. He needs just 5 more for second and 50 more to catch Rich Scheevel's (1983-86) 242.
Canales hit his third triple of the season in the eight driving in pinch-runner Chris Cardinale and Glenn Hedgpeth. Staniland then drove in Canales with his first hit of the night.
Morrison, Radonich and Canales also finished with 3 hits. Marcos and Stephen Vogt each finished with 2 hits apiece as the Cougars continued to pound the ball getting 17 hits. Staniland added 4 RBIs.
