Box Score 2 AZUSA, Calif. -- Senior Brad McKinney tossed a complete-game, 3-hit shutout to lift Azusa Pacific to an 11-0 win over Westmont in the nightcap to complete a GSAC doubleheader sweep Saturday.
McKinney also threw 2 scoreless innings in the opener, which the Cougars won, 6-2.
The Cougars scored runs in all but 2 innings, including a 3-run fifth and 4-run seventh to put the icing on the cake. Jeff Staniland finished 3-for-4 with a solo home run, his third of the season, in the seventh.
Ryan Marcos also hit his fifth home run of the year, a 3-run shot in the fifth that pushed a 4-0 Cougar lead to a 7-0 advantage.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in their first at-bat after Robbie Lindsey drove in Joe Morrison, who doubled, with a single. They added 2 more in the third, taking advantage of 2 Warrior errors and an RBI single from Billy Gwinn.
McKinney retired the first 6 batters then gave up a double and a bunt single in the third before ending the threat. He gave up another single in the fourth and then retired 8 of the final 10 batters of the game to get the complete-game, shutout.
In the opener, Glenn Hedgpeth had 3 hits, and Stephen Vogt had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Cameron Radonich, who finished 2-for-4, gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead with an RBI single in the second. He also scored the first run of the game on an RBI single by Vogt in the first.
Westmont tied the game with a pair of runs of Cougar starter Derek Wohlers in the second, but the Cougars answered with 4 runs over the course of the next 3 innings to put the game away. Wohlers then settled down to scatter just 4 hits over the next 5 innings. He picked up the win after tossing 7 innings, allowing 7 hits and 2 runs while striking out 7. McKinney closed the door without allowing a run in the final 2 frames.
With the sweep, Azusa Pacific improves to 18-10 overall, 6-7 GSAC. Westmont drops to 6-21, 1-11. The Cougars have won 5 straight games.
