Box Score

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific took advantage of its timely hitting and just enough pitching to post a 14-8 GSAC road win over defending GSAC champion The Master's Tuesday.

With the win, Azusa Pacific snaps a 3-game losing skid and improves to 9-4 overall. 1-2 GSAC. The Master's drops to 5-7, 1-2.

The Cougars, who erased a 3-1 deficit, scored 8 of their first 9 runs all with 2 outs. Glenn Hedgpeth got things started with a 2-out RBI double in the first, and then he put the Cougars ahead to stay with a 2-out RBI single in the fifth.

Robbie Lindsey continued his ascent towards the top of the Cougars' hitting charts finished 2-for-5 with 5 RBIs. With the Cougars holding a 5-3 lead in the sixth, Lindsey hammered a 2-out grand slam to center field to blow the game open and give the Cougars an insurmountable 9-3 lead.

Lindsey now has 183 career hits, which places him fifth on the Cougars' all-time chart. He needs just 4 more to move into fourth and pass Scott Raftery, who has 187 hits from 1977-79.

Brandon Sisk started for the Cougars, going 4 innings, allowing 4 hits and 3 earned runs. He was lifted in the fifth moments after getting smacked on the forearm by a line drive. Freshman Johnny Soberal entered in the fifth and retired the side. He picked up his first career win in relief.

The Cougars hit 3 home runs on the day. Ryan Marcos led off the fifth with a solo shot to bring the Cougars within 1 (3-2). Lindsey then drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game at 3 and set up Hedgpeth for the go-ahead single.

In the 5-run sixth, the Cougars had just 2 hits but took advantage of 2 walks, a wild pitch and a hit batsman before Lindsey smacked his second home run of the season. Billy Gwinn added a 2-run shot in the Cougars' 4-run eighth.

Hedgpeth and Jeff Staniland both finished 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Staniland also scored a pair of runs.
