Box Score 2 AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific combined for 28 runs to key its way to a non-conference doubleheader sweep of NCAA Division III Occidental.
Azusa Pacific took the opener 14-0, before completing the sweep with a 14-5 win in the nightcap. With the sweep, the Cougars improve to 8-1 on the season. Occidental drops to 1-5.
In the opener, each Cougar that played got a hit as the Cougars scored 12 of their 14 runs in the final 4 innings. The rest was left of to freshman Brandon Sisk, who was dazzling for his second straight outing. The lefty went a complete 7 innings, allowing just 2 hits while walking just 1 and striking out 8.
The Cougars got all they needed in the second as Ryan Marcos led off by reaching on an error, and Jeff Staniland followed Marcos with a single. Coba Canales, who finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, then drove in both with a 2-RBI triple to right center.
Robbie Lindsey finished 2-for-5, scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 more, and Jake Haaker went 2-for-4 to pick up his first 2 hits of the season. Robert Guiles hit his second home run of the season in the Cougars' 5-run seventh.
As was the case in the opener, every Cougar that played got a hit in the nightcap. Joe Morrison and Anthony Hernandez hit back-to-back sacrifice flys, and Billy Gwinn had a pinch-hit RBI single in the second to get the Cougars out to a 3-0 lead. They added 5 more in the third keyed by back-to-back doubles by Morrison and Hernandez and 5 more in the fifth with 3 of them coming on a 3-run home run by Stephen Vogt.
Daniel Sloan relieved Derek Wohlers, who tossed 2 scoreless innings while recording 3 strikeouts. Sloan went 2 scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts to pick up the win in relief.
Lindsey finished the nightcap 2-for-3 with an RBI before being lifted after 4 innings. Morrison, Guiles, Chris Cardinale and Cameron Radonich also had a pair of hits.
