Box Score CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Cameron Radonich finished 4-for-5 and hit for the cycle as Azusa Pacific trounced NCAA Division III Claremont-Mudd, 19-6, in a non-conference baseball game in Claremont Tuesday.
With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 5-1 on the season, while Claremont-Mudd drops to 1-3.
The Cougars banged out 17 hits, including 10 extra base hits. They hit 4 home runs, 2 triples and 4 doubles.
Robbie Lindsey finished 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles and 3 RBIs. He got the action started with a 2-RBI double in the first inning as the Cougars scored 10 runs in their first 3 at-bats. Ryan Marcos then drove in Lindsey with a double off the center field fence to make it 3-0 in the first.
Brad McKinney tossed 6 innings, scattering 9 hits and allowing just 2 earned runs. He picks up his first win of the season.
In the second, Robert Guiles belted a 2-run homer to right center to give the Cougars a 6-0 lead. Claremont-Mudd scored a run in the second to make it a 6-1 game, but Radonich, who led off the game with a single, launched a grand slam over the left-center field fence to put the Cougars up 10-1.
After Claremont-Mudd scored 3 runs in the fourth to cut the deficit in half at 10-5, Mark Streelman hit the first of 2 solo shots (he hit one in the seventh as well).
As for Radonich, he doubled in the eighth and later scored from second on Guiles infield single to third. Then in the ninth, Radonich tripled off the left-centerfield fence after coming within a few feet of his second grand slam. Coba Canales then tripled him in, and Lindsey drove in Chris Cardinale, who reached on an error, to account for the Cougars' 6-run ninth.
Daniel Sloan and Johnny Soberal worked the final 3 innings, allowing just 2 hits and a 1 run. Sloan, who went 2 innings, allowed a solo home run before striking out the next 2 hitters in the seventh.
Guiles finished 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs. Streelman had 3 hits, and Joe Morrison, making his first start of the season, scored 3 runs.
