LA MIRADA, Calif. – Biola scored 4 runs on just 2 hits in the first inning and never looked back in a 9-2 GSAC win over Azusa Pacific.
In a match-up of the GSAC's 2 most successful baseball programs, the Eagles took advantage of Cougar starter Chad Clark's ineffectiveness. After striking out Philip Ward to leadoff the inning, Clark allowed a double to Matt Parrish, then he hit 2 batters, walked 2 more, threw a wild pitch and allowed a 2-RBI single. By the time the dust settled, Biola led 4-0.
In the fourth, Cameron Radonich drove in Robbie Lindsey with an RBI single to make it 4-1. However, the Eagles chased Clark with three 3 more runs to take a 7-1 lead after 4 innings.
Clark, who was making his first appearance since Feb. 1, lasted just 3.1 innings, allowing 5 hits, 5 walks and 7 earned runs.
The Cougars left 12 runners on base, squandering several chances to cut into the deficit. In fact, there were only 2 innings where the Cougars didn't leave a runner on base.
The Cougars biggest threat came in the sixth inning. Trailing 7-1, Lindsey led off with a walk and later scored on a single from Alex Valadez. The Cougars loaded the bases, but Traviss Hodge flew out to deep right field to end the threat.
Lindsey and catcher Jake Haaker each finished with 2 hits apiece. Lindsey scored a pair of runs.
With the win, Biola improves to 6-2 overall, 1-0 GSAC. Azusa Pacific drops to 4-4, 2-1.
