Cougars Cruise Past Westmont

COSTA MESA, Calif. – Azusa Pacific made quick work of fourth-seeded Westmont, downing the Warriors, 5-0, to advance to tomorrow's championship match of the 2002 NAIA Region II Men's Tennis Tournament in Costa Mesa, Calif.

The match was called when the Cougars had clinched the match after they had taken the first 5 of a possible 9 points.

With the win, the Cougars will meet Point Loma Nazarene Thursday morning at 9 a.m. for the NAIA Region II championship.

The Cougars, ranked No. 6 in the NAIA and the top seed in the region, jumped out of the gate sweeping all 3 doubles' matches from the Warriors. Sam Fletcher/Simon Bieri (No. 1), Gordon Hong/Adam Davidson (No. 2) and Benny Lin/Aaron Coyle (No. 3) all picked up wins to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead.

Fletcher, playing at No. 2, won his match 6-1, 6-0, then Hong (No. 4) sealed the win with a 6-0, 6-0 win.
