Sam Fletcher and sophomore
Simon Bieri both grabbed individual wins and teamed together to cruise to an easy doubles' victory, but it was not enough as Azusa Pacific fell, 6-3, to NCAA Division II UC San Diego this afternoon.
Fletcher defeated UCSD's Mike Meyer, 4-6, 6-0, 7-6, and Bieri downed Bryan Swatt, 0-6, 6-2, 6-3, for the Cougars' lone singles' wins. The duo then teamed together to easily defeat Meyer and Swatt, 8-2.
Azusa Pacific's
Adam Davidson nearly pulled off a win, pushing Emil Novak to the limit, before falling, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
Aaron Coyle,
Gordon Hong and
Todd Lindbloom all fell in straight sets.
In double's action Hong and Davidson fell to UCSD's Jeff Wilson and Dan Albrecht, 8-3, and Coyle and Linbloom were defeated by the Triton's duo of Everett Schroeter and Amir Nejad, 8-4.
With the loss, the Cougars fall to 2-1 overall. The Cougars host the University of Redlands Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
