Cougars Relieved With Another Win Over Biola

AZUSA, Calif. - Senior Eric Ordorica hit a grand slam in the first inning to tie the game at 4-4, then scored the eventual game-winning run 2 innings later to lead Azusa Pacific to a 6-4 win over the NAIA's No. 8-ranked and 4-time defending GSAC champion Biola.

Ordorica finished the day 3-for-4 with 3 runs, 4 RBIs, a double and a grand slam lifting the Cougars to their fourth straight win and second in 7 days over the Eagles.

Biola jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a pair of 2-run blasts by Carl Galloway and Matt Cardamone in its first at-bat off starter Mike Medlock, who was making his first career start. Head coach Tony Barbone lifted Medlock with 2 outs in the first, and the Cougar bullpen went to work holding the Eagles scoreless and scattering 7 meaningless singles over the final 8.1 innings.

Victor Ambruso led off the first with a double. He moved to third on Shaun Buetner's infield single. Seth Johnson then got hit with a pitch, setting up Ordorica's theatrics.

Mike Soto then drove in Ordorica, who doubled earlier in the inning, with a double of his own in the third, giving the Cougars a 5-4 lead. Ordorica scored an insurance tally in the fifth, scoring on Rocky Binkowski's double.

The Cougar bullpen that shined today. Senior George Barnes moved to 3-0 on the season, firing 5 scoreless innings, allowing just 4 hits and striking out 2. Matt Canada worked 2.1 innings allowing just 1 hit and striking out 2, and after allowing back-to-back leadoff singles, senior B. J. Litchfield slammed the door for his fifth save.

Binkowski and Soto both finished 2-for-4 with RBI doubles.Ê Galloway and Sam Orr both finished 3-for-4 for Biola. All-GSAC pitcher Chad Ekin suffered his third loss of the season despite pitching a complete game.

With the sweep, the Cougars improve to 8-6, 4-1, while Biola drops to 7-8, 4-3.
