Cougars Are Convincing Over Sagehens

GLENDORA, CALIF. – Spearheaded by freshman Sam Fletcher (Bomaderry, Australia/Bomaderry HS), the Azusa Pacific men's tennis team roared to a convincing victory over visiting Pomona-Pitzer College Saturday afternoon in Glendora.

Playing in the Cougars' No. 1 spot, Fletcher rolled past the Sagehens' J. R. Hall, 6-2, 6-2, then teamed with Simon Bieri (Niederous, Switzerland/Langenthal Kauf. BS) to defeat Pitzer's top doubles' team of Hall and Samir Vora, 8-4.

In single's play, Bieri defeated Vora, 6-0, 6-4. Freshman Gordon Hong (Arcadia, Calif./Arcadia HS) handed PPC's Nate Pealer a 6-2, 6-1 defeat, and fellow freshman Adam Davidson (Valencia, Calif./Hart HS), playing in the No. 4 slot, defeated Chris Croxton, 7-5, 6-4.

Todd Lindbloom (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg HS) easily disposed of Jamie Frank, 6-3, 6-3, and Aaron Coyle (Covina, Calif./Palomar CC) downed Brett Hamilton, 6-1, 6-1, to round out the Cougars' sweep in singles' play.

In doubles play, Hong and Davidson teamed to defeat Pealer and Sam Gaines, 8-4, and Lindbloom and Coyle dropped Croxton and Frank, 8-2.

With the win, the Cougars are now 1-0 on the year. They return to action Wednesday (Jan. 30) when they host CS Los Angeles at 1:30 p.m.
