Cougars Remain Unbeaten Through 8

COSTA MESA, Calif. -- Senior Matt Hall and freshman Lein Shanahan each scored their second goals of the season, one in each half, to lift the NAIA's No. 7-ranked Azusa Pacific to a 2-0 GSAC victory over Vanguard Saturday evening.

Hall scored in the 37th minute on a rebound of a Jordan Jones shot to put the Cougars up 1-0 at the half.  Shanahan then took advantage of a defensive breakdown by the Lions to slip a shot past keeper Tommaso Bianchi for an insurance goal.

The Cougar controlled what was a rather clean game (just 21 fouls between the 2 teams), and out-shot the Lions, 25-8.

The victory pushes Azusa Pacific's record to 6-0-2 on the season, 2-0 in the GSAC, and avenges last year's only blemish on the Cougar GSAC record, a 2-2 tie in Azusa. Vanguard falls to 3-7-1 overall, 0-2 in the GSAC.
