CARSON, CALIF. -- Azusa Pacific let victory slip from its hands and then was relieved to get a 1-1 tie with Cal State Dominguez Hills Wednesday afternoon.
In the 54th minute of the game, freshman Lisa Roufs scored what was the game's only goal for 89 minutes and 26 seconds, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead an an apparent eighth straight win. However, with their keeper in the Cougar box, the Toros scored the equalizer with 34 seconds left when Griseld Ramirez tapped in a loose ball after a mad scramble in front of the net.
In the second OT, CSUDH appeared to have the win when Myisha Delaney headed a ball with 1 second left, but the goal was waved off because of offsides, assuring the tie.
As has been the case through much of the season, Azusa Pacific dominated play but had a hard time putting the ball across the goal line. The Cougars out-shot CSUDH, 20-13, and managed 13 corner kicks to the Toros' 2.
The Cougars, who were coming off an emotional road victory over Simon Fraser last weekend, were flat and as a result saw their 7-game winning streak come to end. Azusa Pacific now 7-2-2 while Cal State Dominguez Hills is 6-3-1.
