Broncos Slip Past Cougars

POMONA, CALIF. – Cal Poly Pomona's Tara Chance scored off a corner kick in the 62^nd minute for the game's lone goal as the Broncos defeated Azusa Pacific, 1-0, in the season opener for both teams Monday night.

It was the second consecutive season in which Cal Poly Pomona, ranked No. 18 in NCAA Division II, defeated the Cougars 1-0 in the season opener.

Both teams struggled to generate any offense for much of the game with the Cougars firing 6 shots and the Broncos 7. Azusa Pacific GK Melissa Strother (Covina, Calif./South Hills HS) recorded 3 saves.

The Cougars will be in action again Thursday night (Aug. 30) when they travel to CS San Bernardino for a 4 p.m. contest against former mentor Christian Johnson and the Coyotes.
