Cougar Bats Alive Again In Sweep

IRVINE, CALIF. – The roller coaster is gaining speed – again.

The Cougar offense, which has been up and down all season like a roller coaster, apparently is doing well now after Azusa Pacific lit up the scoreboard for 16 runs today in a GSAC doubleheader sweep of Concordia, beating the Eagles 10-2 and 6-0.

Azusa Pacific, which had just 13 hits in 4 games last week, including a mere 3 in a doubleheader at Biola, banged out 17 in today's sweep.

In the opening game the Cougars blew open the contest with a 5-run third inning.  Lorna Lyttle's double capped the frame.  The rest was up to freshman pitcher Rachel Potucek, who held the Eagles to just 2 hits over the final 4 innings.

In the nightcap, Lyttle's 3-run homer highlighted a 4-run third inning as the Cougars skated to the shutout victory.  Meanwhile, All-American Mandy Dorow fired a 4-hitter at Concordia, striking out 2 in the process.

Junior Jennifer Robison was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.  Jennifer Waleszonia cranked her team-leading sixth home run of the season, a solo shot in the fifth inning.

With the wins, Azusa Pacific improves to 28-13 overall, 13-5 in the GSAC to remain 2 games behind front-running Point Loma Nazarene.  Concordia falls to 29-19 overall.
